Chemical etching is a form of engraving that uses a high-pressure, high-temperature chemical spray to form a permanent pattern, shape or image on a material such as metal.

A mask is used to protect elements of the metal whilst the high pressure, the high-temperate chemical spray will amplify the corrosive reaction on the metal. The contact between dissolved unprotected areas when compared to the protected area covered by the mask gives a detailed impression of an image etched onto metal.

This can be used for a range of materials such as stainless steel, brass, mild steel, copper, nickel, aluminium, elgiloy, molybdenum & titanium. It’s used as a cost-effective way to produce the desired image, text or design onto a metal material.

Process of Chemical Etching

Sheet metal preparation - chemical etching

Preparation

We select the suitable metal based on your request and cut this to size for your project. The metal sheet is then chemically cleaned. We then apply a dry film photosensitive resist and apply this to both sides of the metal.

Printing

We transfer your design from the film onto the sheet metal material using UV LED exposure. The process of developing involves leaving exposed areas of the metal. Whilst the etching involves spraying both sides of the material so the exposed metal is dissolved.

Finishing

We'll then strip away the photo-resist to leave the metal parts exposed. After that, an inspection of the final product is conducted to ensure the standard meets the requirement.
